Frequently Asked Questions

About Coaching

  • What is Coaching?

    • Coaching is the relationship between a client and a coach. The client has goals and wants to improve in a certain area of their life and the coach provides feedback, perspective, information, guidance, accountability, and encouragement, motivating the client to make progress and achieve their goals.

    • Coaching topics can range from finance and business, to cooking and health, to personal development.

    • Coaching relationships typically last between two months and 6 months, but can also exist for a year or so.

  • Are you going to tell me to…

    • I’m not going to tell you to do anything. You are in control of your life. My goal is to guide you towards self-awareness and to discover on your own where you want to be and how to get thereCoaching helps a client go beyond what they thought was possible.

  • How is coaching different from counseling?

    • While some coaching exercises may touch on past experiences, the goal is to stay forward focused and keep moving the client towards their goals. Counseling usually spends more time on past events, fully unpacking those so the client can heal and then move forward.

  • How do I know if the coach is good or not?

    • Unlike counseling, the coaching field is not standardized, and coaches do not have to be licensed. However, coaches that choose to earn a Certificate in coaching, are trained not only in coaching methods and techniques, but in appropriate ethics and practices.  These coaches are more likely to know what they are doing and to do it well.

    • Read their testimonials, comments, and social media pages. Usually the more a coach can show that they deliver big results, the better the experience for the client. This will also give you the opportunity to see the coach's content, brand, and voice, in other places than just the website.

    • If a coach seems good, but you're not sure, send them a message! Coaches do what they do because they love to connect with people. How the coach responds (and the time it takes) can tell you a lot about what working with them might be like.

Benefits of Working with a Coach

  • Why is coaching growing so popular?
    • It's popular because it works. Good coaches deliver incredible results, and poor coaches won't build the social credibility they need to continue growing, ensuring that the field offers quality coaching.
    • The endless coaching topics meet the needs of anyone who wants to improve a specific area of their life.
    • Coaching is flexible enough to adapt to a range of clients, while still giving the coach the opportunity to engage with topics that they love.
  • What happens when you hire a coach?
    • Hiring a coach starts an intimate working relationship. In depth exercises and conversations lead to custom support. The coach and client work together to improve specific aspects of the clients' lives.
  • Coaching can take a lot of time and money. Are the benefits worth it?
    • Aside from achieving their professional or personal goals, a coaching client gains confidence in their self and their abilities.
    • Coaches should be able to state and showcase the benefits that they deliver. It's up to the potential client to decide if the outcomes are worth the investment they will make.

Is working with a coach right for me?

  • How do I know if I need a coach or not?

    • Anyone who wants to improve parts of their life and be their best selves should hire a coach.

  • What if I can't afford coaching?

    • Coaching can cost a lot of money. Some coaches make $10,000 in one day. Ultimately, if the results are worth it, people will find a way to pay.

    • The cost of a coaching program should be reasonable for the coach's topic and chosen audience.

    • Ok, but really. If you would like to hire a coach but just don't see how you could make it work financially, reach out to the coach and tell them. Most coaches should have other options in place, can offer discounts or scholarships, or can come up with other ideas to help.

  • What if I don't have the time for coaching?

    • If it is important enough, someone will make time. Especially because most coaching topics can help clients know how to better prioritize their time.

  • Who hires coaches?
    • The coaching industry is one of the fastest growing in the United States, and globally. People all over the world are hiring coaches for various purposes.
    • People who are serious about improving their lives and reaching their goals.
    • People who feel stuck and don't know how to get where they want to go.
  • How can an established coaching program fit my unique goals and needs?
    • Good coaches are trained and efficient at tailoring their coaching methods to different clients
    • The reason that coaching is so popular is that it is a one-on-one relationship where that customization for clients' specific goals is not only possible, but a key component.

Breathing Purpose Coaching

  • What are the benefits of this specific coaching program?

    • Increased self awareness; identifying passions, skills and strengths.

    • Improved communication with others.

    • Confidence in who you are, and what you can do.

    • Honed focus and knowing how to make your life vision a reality.

    • Achieved personal or professional goals.

    • Implemented positive change and building habits.

    • Time management and prioritizing the most important things.

    • Better control of life: more fulfillment, and less stress.

    • Knowing and living within your purpose, breathing it, every day.

    • Client may receive additional benefits depending on their goals.

    • * These results are proven, but not guaranteed; dependent on client's efforts.

  • Who is the Breathing Purpose Coaching Program for?

    • While the Breathing Purpose Coaching Program is flexible enough to support anyone, it is designed for a specific audience.

    • The program is created for females in the United States, ages 25-35 (ish). In this age range people are still seeking stability in identity, career, and relationships. The content supports professionals and managers who are struggling to keep up with both work and home responsibilities. Potential clients likely feel that they are constantly hustling, working hard, stressed, burned out, and overwhelmed.

    • That is the ideal Breathing Purpose client. The niche client is someone who fits most of the above descriptions, but is also struggling to balance their own interests, and the time that they spend helping others. A lot of women are compassionate and happy to support their friends and family. While this is a great quality, without careful management, it can take over and overwhelm the individual. They often end up burned out, staying in states of stress and then are not at their best to help anyone, let alone achieve their own goals.

  • What if I need help, but don't want to commit for 4 months?

    • Although the full coaching program maximizes results, if you can't complete a 4 month program, you have 2 options:

      • Complete an application anyway. You can always come back to coaching at another time.

      • Reach out to Rin. She can provide some suggestions, or share some resources.

    • Coming soon: Self paced courses that clients can do at home, on their own time, on specific aspects of the coaching program.

  • What if something comes up and I have to miss a session?

    • That is ok! Life is difficult and often unexpected events interfere. Just let Rin know as soon as you can, and she will work with you to re-schedule the session and get your progress back on track.

  • What are the coaching sessions like?

    • Most coaching sessions are an hour long.

    • Rin checks in on how you are doing, and your progress, and then transitions to new topics.

    • Sessions build on one another. As the client progresses through the program, the content gets deeper, and requires more reflection and implementation.

    • Rin asks the client questions and guides them to new perspective or ideas.

    • Sessions conclude with encouragement, and laying out the client's next steps.

  • What are the hardest parts of the Breathing Purpose program?
    • Depending on the client, usually they find one of these two sections the hardest:
      • Varying parts of the second month, when they have to reflect more on their past and life experiences, and fears.
      • Towards the end when they have to do the work outside of sessions, to implement change into their every days lives. It takes dedication and intention. Some people say they want the positive change, but need extra time or support to make it happen.
  • What are the best parts of the Breathing Purpose program?
    • Clients always get excited towards the end. They can not only see the life what they want, but they know how to get there. Their motivation is increased, which further advances their progress.
    • Clients also enjoy reviewing the whole coaching process, and compiling who they are into a simple, concise Purpose Statement, and then unpacking it further into a Declaration to inspire and motivate themselves.
  • What if I have questions or need help outside of the coaching sessions?
    • Included in the coaching program is frequent communication and support from your coach. You can reach out at any point, and if Rin doesn't hear from you, she will check in on you.
  • How is the Breathing Purpose Coaching program different from others?

    • Most other purpose coaches use Purpose as a broad term, and the coaching may focus more on career transition, achieving goals, leadership skills, or personal development. There can be a lot of overlap in these areas, but not all of these businesses offer specific activities and professional assessments to take the time to help the client learn who they are, before they get to where the client wants to go.
The first two months of the Breathing Purpose program are dedicated solely to self discovery, and then builds to define purpose and implement purpose.

    • There is another group of purpose coaching programs that are less specific in the topics that they offer, and who they work with. The issue with this is that they are less specialized on the Purpose topic. Clients seeking their purpose need support in discovering and creating...well, their purpose. And by not focusing on a specific audience, they are limiting the depth of support that they can provide to a specific group of people. In 1:1 coaching, depth is what clients want, and that's what Breathing Purpose adds.

    • Some purpose coaching programs also have a more fun brand, using texting language, and emoticons. I think there is a time and a place for this, but not as a business brand. Paying clients want to know that they are receiving quality content and support. I'm not suggesting that these coaches lack quality services, I'm more speaking to the image conveyed to potential clients, and the comfort that clients receive when they know they are signing up for "the real deal", as one of the Breathing Purpose clients put it.

  • What if I start the program and don't like it?

    • The program and sessions are adaptable to each client's needs and goals to ensure that the client is getting what they want out of their purpose journey.

    • If there really is an issue, speak with Rin and she will try to work something out.

  • What if 4 months isn't enough support for my transformation and goals?

    • If Rin and the client feel that the client could benefit from additional coaching, there would be the possibility to add additional sessions and support, according to an agreed upon contract extension.

  • How do I know I won't be "just another" client?
    • Rin spent years practicing her teaching and training skills, but decided that coaching was more in alignment with how she wants to connect with others. She wants the longer term, one-on-one relationship where she can get to know individual clients, and provide custom support. The intimate working relationship benefits the client, and fits into Rin's career goals. She doesn't want to teach students, or train corporate teams; she wants to coach you.
